Congratulations to the Easton Baseball 12u District Team, who finished with a perfect 15-0 record winning the Cal Ripken Extreme League Championship Game on Sunday 3-2 over Pomperaug. The team finished with a 25-6 overall record this summer.
In the championship game, the 12's relied on what earned them such a strong record, stellar pitching and great defense. Christian Nilsen pitched four solid innings before being relieved by his brother, Ian Nilsen. The Easton defense backed up the Nilsens with numerous stellar defensive plays.
Ian Nilsen had a two run homerun in the first inning. After that, Pomperaug chipped away and tied the game at 2-2 in the 4th inning. Jesse Covino's diving catch in right field in the 5th inning kept the game tied at 2. Spencer Thomas walked to lead off the bottom of the 6th inning and then stole second. Cam Forte followed with a shot off the center field fence that scored Thomas with the winning run.
In compiling their 25-6 record, highlights of the 12's summer included winning the Al Leonard Tournament in Bethel (beating the CT state representative to the Cal Ripken regionals not once, but twice), qualifying for the CT Cal Ripken State Tournament, and posting their perfect record in the Cal Ripken Summer Extreme League.
